Always add the packet before heating. Bring the water to a boil, then simmer gently to bring out the full umami.

How To Make Dashi

Yes! The powder can be sprinkled directly into soups, stir-fries, or marinades for an instant boost of umami.

How to Use Dashi as a Seasoning

To avoid clumping, try adding the powder before heating. If sprinkling over hot food, reduce steam exposure or transfer the powder to a small plate before using.

Keep the packets in their original aluminum bag. Gently press out the air, seal tightly, and store at room temperature away from humidity and direct sunlight.

We don’t recommend it. Refrigeration may cause the packets to absorb moisture or unwanted odors.

It’s best to keep the powder in its original packet. Fold the edge tightly, place it in an airtight container with a desiccant if available, and use it as soon as possible.

All of our products are made in carefully monitored facilities in Japan without preservatives. As a result, the “best before” date may be shorter than similar products found in U.S. markets.

Please note that we cannot accept returns or exchanges for items that are close to their best before date.

Yes. All Kayanoya products, including Kayanoya Dashi, are made without the use of genetically modified ingredients. This standard applies not only to the main ingredients but also to secondary and tertiary ingredients.

Our Light in Sodium Dashi is made with a higher proportion of natural dashi ingredients, which results in slightly higher naturally occurring sodium. However, no additional salt is added.

We recommend Light in Sodium Dashi for those who are mindful of reducing their salt intake.

One packet of Kayanoya Original Dashi contains approximately 180 µg of iodine.

It is an ingredient that provides umami.
Fermented seasoning is produced by fermenting soybeans and wheat to develop a rich flavor.

Yeast extract is considered a food ingredient, not an artificial food additive in Japan.
Yeast has long been indispensable for brewing beer and wine, fermenting bread, and producing fermented foods such as miso and soy sauce.


At Kayanoya, we use yeast extract made from these safe and reliable yeasts, in order to enhance the natural flavor of the main ingredients.

Orders are fulfilled from our warehouse in Los Angeles. If your order is placed before 12 AM (midnight) PST, it will be scheduled for processing on the next business day.

Orders typically ship within 1–3 business days, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).

  • Orders placed between Friday and Sunday will begin processing on the following Monday.
  • If a national holiday falls on a business day, we will begin processing on the next available business day.

We ship via USPS or UPS, depending on your location and order contents.

Please double-check your shipping address before placing your order. We’re unable to offer refunds or reshipments for address errors.

As of November 12, 2025, the following flat-rate shipping fees apply to all orders within the United States, regardless of order size:
